ABSTRACT

Novel coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) is a highly contagious disease that has been recorded as a third global pandemic caused by the coronavirus (CoV) family in the past twenty years in the aftermath of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and middle east respiratory syndrome (MERS). COVID 19 is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that is transmitted by person-to-person transmission and it remains asymptomatic or presented with mild flu-like symptoms in most occasions, while in some instances, it may progress to severe life threatening and potentially fatal illnesses. This disease is now imposing immense negative influences across the world due to the highly contagious nature of the disease as well as due to the absence of effective treatment targeting the disease. This review addresses the recent advances on the structure and genomic arrangement of SARS-CoV-2 as well as the viral entry, replication and virus-host protein interactome that potentially contribute to cell infectivity, immune evasion, and viral spread. Unveiling the details of such aspects of SARS-CoV-2, therefore, possibly has paramount importance for discovering therapeutic targets.

ABSTRACT

Optimum planting arrangement is an important attribute for efficient utilization of available resources and to obtain high yield of cotton. Application of plant growth promoter and retardant on cotton in improved planting density are the innovative techniques in the establishment of more productive cotton crop. Therefore, we planned a field study to assess the role of bio-stimulant and growth retardant in the resource utilization efficiency of cotton cultivars planted under variable row spacing at Agronomic Research Area Bahauddin Zakariya University and Usmania Agricultural Farm Shujabad during Kharif 2012. Experimental treatments consisted of cotton genotypes viz. CIM-573 and CIM-598, cultivated under conventional (75 cm), medium (50 cm) and ultra-narrow row spacing (25 cm) with foliar spray of bio-stimulant (moringa leaf extract) and growth retardant (mepiquate chloride), either sole or in combination, keeping distilled water as a control. Exogenously applied MLE alone and MLE + MC significantly enhanced the number of squares, flowers and green bolls per plant leading to higher cotton seed and lint yield of CIM 598 cultivar cultivated under conventional row spacing. While application of MC alone and MLE + MC produced maximum micronaire value, fiber strength and fiber uniformity ratio of CIM 573 cultivar cultivated under conventional row spacing. The results suggested that application of MLE is a possible approach to enhance the cotton productivity and the use of MC to enhance the fiber quality attributes under conventional row spacing.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics and prognosis of IL3-IGH fusion gene-positive pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with hypereosinophilia as the first presentation. Methods:The clinical data of 1 pediatric IL3-IGH fusion gene-positive ALL patient with hypereosinophilia as the first presentation in January 2021 in Fujian Medical University Union Hospital was retrospectively analyzed and relevant literature was reviewed. Results:This 11-year-old male patient underwent bone marrow examination, and results showed that the proportion of eosinophils was increased; immunophenotyping disclosed that there were about 49.4% abnormal naive B lymphocytes in bone marrow; 43 leukemia fusion genes showed all negative; the whole transcriptome sequencing showed IL3-IGH fusion gene-positive. The patient was finally diagnosed as B-ALL with IL3-IGH fusion gene. According to the Chinese Children Cancer Group (CCCG)-ALL 2020 regimen, eosinophils returned to normal after induction therapy. Bone marrow examination on day 19 of induction showed that the proportion of promyelocytes was 0.005, the proportion of eosinophils was 0.05, and the minimal residual disease (MRD) was 23.02%. Bone marrow examination on day 46 of induction showed remission, and MRD was 0.18%. Consolidation chemotherapy used CAT (cyclophosphamide 1 g/m 2 once; cytarabine 50 mg/m 2, 12 h once, 7 days in total; mercaptopurine 40 mg/m 2, once per night, 7 days in total) regimen. Then the patient was added with lusotinib (75 mg 12 h once) orally and continued to receive high-dose methotrexate (5 g/m 2) regimen chemotherapy for 2 courses, the MRD was 0.20%. Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) regimen was administered, followed by negative MRD. Conclusions:IL3-IGH fusion gene ALL is more frequently found in males, and more common in older children and young adults. It is prone to organ infiltration damage, and it has a high rate of induction failure and recurrence as well as poor prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Studies addressing the interaction of different spatial arrangement in soybean are needed in order to achieve management that leads to higher grain yield associated with rational seed use. The objective of this work was to evaluate the yield components and productivity of an undetermined growth type soybean as a function of different row spacing and plant densities. The treatments consisted of three row spaces (0.25, 0.35 and 0.45 m) and three plant population densities (30, 40 and 50 plants/m²). There was no interaction of row spaces and plant population on soybean yield. Regarding the overall spacing average, the grain yield of the population of 30/m² plants was higher than the productivity of the populations of 40 and 50/m² plants. The largest populations reduce plant sizes due to greater competition between plants. In addition, smaller populations promote higher individual plant yields due to the increase components of the production. This characteristic is defined as the ability of the plant to change its morphology and yield components in order to adapt to the conditions imposed by the spatial arrangement.

ABSTRACT

The yellowtail rasbora (Rasbora tornieri) is a miniature ray-finned fish categorized under the genus Rasbora in the family of Cyprinidae. In this study, a complete mitogenome sequence of R. tornieri was sequenced using four primers targeting two halves of the mitogenome with overlapping flanking regions. The size of mitogenome was 16,573 bp, housing 22 transfer RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes and a putative control region. Identical gene organization was detected between this species and other members of Rasbora genus. The heavy strand encompassed 28 genes while the light strand accommodated the other nine genes. Most protein-coding genes execute ATG as start codon, excluding COI and ND3 genes, which utilized GTG instead. The central conserved sequence blocks (CSB-E, CSB-F and CSB-D), variable sequence blocks (CSB-1, CSB-3 and CSB-2) as well as the terminal associated sequence (TAS) were conserved within the control region. The maximum likelihood phylogenetic family tree revealed the divergence of R. tornieri from the basal region of the Rasbora clade, where its evolutionary relationships with other Rasbora members are poorly resolved as indicated by the low bootstrap values. This work acts as window for further population genetics and molecular evolution studies of Rasbora genus in future.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: As per standard text, the anteroposterior topographical arrangement of renal hilar structures are:vein-artery-renal pelvis. However, hilar variations are very common. Aim: The present study intends to increaseawareness of possible variations in the hilar anatomy as they are of immense importance in invasive renalinterventions.Materials and methods: A careful dissection of 51 embalmed cadaveric kidneys was carried out for the propervisualization of renal hilar structures and their relations were clearly defined.Observations and Results: Enormous renal hilar variation was observed. We classified these renal variations in8 different patterns. Normal hilar arrangement was seen in 25.5% kidneys and in 74.5% cases this arrangementis disturbed. 43.1% kidneys demonstrated presence of retropelvic structures. Anterior and posterior tributariesof renal vein were displayed in 9.8% of casesConclusion: Knowledge of the pattern of renal hilar structures is of great importance in the interventionalradiological & laparoscopic renal surgeries thereby reducing the risk of vascular complications.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Cannulated screw fixation is the first choice for the treatment of fresh femoral neck fracture. However, in the patients with bone defect, the mechanical conduction and stability of the proximal femur are obviously changed, which easily leads to the failure of internal fixation, nonunion or delayed healing of the fracture, so the study of biomechanics has important clinical significance. OBJECTIVE: To explore the biomechanical changes of proximal femur with posterior-inferior bone defect using finite element analysis, compare the biomechanical effect of cannulated screws with different configurations in treatment of adductive femoral neck fractures. METHODS: Original DICOM data of CT scan of proximal femur in an adult healthy male volunteer were obtained. MIMICS 10.01 software and Rhino3D NURBS software were used to make the models of femoral neck fracture with different degrees of posterior-inferior bone defects (no defect model, small defect model, medium defect model and large defect model). Two configurations of cannulated screws (inverted triangle and positive triangle) were used in four models. Mesh generation and material property assignment were conducted after assembly. The coupling relationship was established between the center and the surface of the femoral head by ABAQUS 6.12 software. The load and constraints of slow walking were applied to all models. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: (1) The inner side of the femoral neck was subjected to compressive stress, and the lateral side was subjected to tensile stress for the non-defect model. The stress distribution of the femoral head was more uniform. With the increase of the degrees of posterior-inferior bone defect, the stress peak value of femoral head, femoral neck pressure side and tension side, and cannulated screw tail were increased gradually. (2) With the increase of the defect degree, the peak value of the stress on the pressure side of the cannulated screw increased gradually. In the middle and large defect models, the stress in the inverted triangle group was higher than in the regular triangle group (P 0.05). (3) With the increase of the defect degree, the peak stress on tension side of cannulated screw increased gradually. In the model of no defect and small defect, the stress in the regular triangle group was higher than in the inverted triangle group (P 0.05). (5) With the increase of the defect degree, the peak value of stress in the tail of cannulated screw increased gradually. In the small, medium and large defect models, the stress in the inverted triangle group was higher than in the regular triangle group (P 0.05). (6) Results suggested that different degrees of posterior-inferior bone defects could obviously affect the biomechanical properties of the proximal femur. For femoral neck fracture with no defect or lesser degree of defect, the biomechanical effect of inverted triangle was superior to regular triangle. For femoral neck fracture with big defect, the biomechanical effect of regular triangle was superior to inverted triangle.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND@#The living arrangement has been suggested as an important factor affecting health. Recent studies have also suggested that there was a risk among elderly persons who were not alone. This study examined whether the detailed living arrangement was associated with a future decline in functional capacity in the elderly, by gender, in a Japanese suburban city.@*METHODS@#A 3-year longitudinal questionnaire survey (baseline: 2011; follow-up: 2014) for aged 65 years or older was conducted in Kurihara city, Japan. Of the respondents in the baseline survey, we analyzed those who scored 13 points (a perfect score which indicates the highest functional capacity; n = 2627) on the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology Index of Competence at the baseline. The exposure was living arrangement at baseline, divided into five categories: "with spouse only," "living alone," "with child and his/her spouse," "with child without his/her spouse," and "with other family/person." The outcome was the decline in functional capacity at the follow-up survey (score decreased to 10 points or less from 13 points).@*RESULTS@#Of the 2627 analyzed population, 1199 (45.6%) were men. The incidence of the decline was 5.8% in men and 5.9% in women. Multivariable logistic regression analyses adjusted for age, educational attainment, and health behavior and condition revealed that in women, the odds ratio of the decline was higher in living with child and his/her spouse (2.41, 95% confidence interval; 1.10-5.28) referring to living with spouse only. When adjusting activities inside and outside the home such as housework additionally, the association was attenuated to marginal significance (2.25, 0.98-5.18). No statistical significance was observed in men.@*CONCLUSIONS@#These results suggested that living with child and spouse of a child was associated with the future decline in women's functional capacity.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: In modern societies, sleep deprivation is a serious health problem. This problem could be induced by a variety of reasons, including lifestyle habits or neurological disorders. Chronic sleep deprivation (CSD) could have complex biological consequences, such as changes in neural autonomic control, increased oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses. The superior cervical ganglion (SCG) is an important sympathetic component of the autonomic nervous system. CSD can lead to a wide range of neurological consequences in SCG, which mainly supply innervations to circadian system and other structures. As the active component of Curcuma longa, curcumin possesses many therapeutic properties; including neuroprotective. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of CSD on the SCG histomorphometrical changes and the protective effect of curcumin in preventing these changes. METHODS: Thirty-six male rats were randomly assigned to the control, curcumin, CSD, CSD + curcumin, grid floor control, and grid floor + curcumin groups. The CSD was induced by a modified multiple platform apparatus for 21 days and animals were sacrificed at the end of CSD or treatment, and their SCGs removed for stereological and TUNEL evaluations and also spatial arrangement of neurons in this structure. RESULTS: Concerning stereological findings, CSD significantly reduced the volume of SCG and its total number of neurons and satellite glial cells in comparison with the control animals ( P < 0.05). Treatment of CSD with curcumin prevented these decreases. Furthermore, TUNEL evaluation showed significant apoptosis in the SCG cells in the CSD group, and treatment with curcumin significantly decreased this apoptosis ( P < 0.01). This decrease in apoptosis was observed in all control groups that received curcumin. CSD also changed the spatial arrangement of ganglionic neurons into a random pattern, whereas treatment with curcumin preserved its regular pattern. CONCLUSIONS: CSD could potentially induce neuronal loss and structural changes including random spatial distribution in the SCG neurons. Deleterious effects of sleep deprivation could be prevented by the oral administration of curcumin. Furthermore, the consumption of curcumin in a healthy person might lead to a reduction of cell death.

ABSTRACT

Silvopastoral system, in which trees and forage species are grown in the same area together with animals, has emerged as a sustainable alternative of agricultural production systems. However, information on different silvicultural arrangements and combinations of forest, animal and grazing components in this system are still scarce. Thus, this study followed the silvicultural performance of the forest component (Eucalyptus urophylla x E. grandis, eucalyptus hybrid, clone I-144) under different population arrangements in a silvopastoral system through periodic dendrometric evaluations and determined the impact of animal component (Nellore females) on tree development and ingestive behavior of animals subjected to rotational grazing in Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu. The study was conducted at Agropecuária Ouro Branco, located in Bandeirantes, MS, Brazil. Total height, diameter at breast height, and wood volume per hectare were evaluated in three- and five-row ranks. To indicate plant growth, the current and average annual increments werecalculated. Animal behavior was evaluated based on the periodic observation of 15 animals randomly selected in the lot. The initial performance of forest component was satisfactory in both populations, but growth indicators indicated greater current and average annual increments in the five-row rank. The presence of forest component does not interfere with the ingestive behavior and wellbeing of animals in the silvopastoral system, as well as, the presence of animal component does not interfere in the plants silvicultural development.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Gynandromorphism or intersexuality is a rare condition where the individual has male and female features. In this report we described two imagoes of Farrodes xingu Domínguez et al. (1996) from Brazil presenting intersex traits. We considered the arranged sexual characters as antero-posterior and bilateral. One individual has a male head, abdomen full of eggs and the subgenital plate with a malformed outset of penes (antero-posterior), while the other individual has half of the head with a male-like turbinate eye and the other half with a regular female-like one, and with malformed male genitalia (bilateral).

ABSTRACT

The distance between the natural teeth and the implants is an important factor in preserving the periodontal tissues and esthetics. And abnormal positional displacement and tilting of the teeth during restorative procedure may require intentional root canal treatment and may affect masticatory function. This report is to present a successful full mouth rehabilitation of a patient with uneven dentition and collapsed occlusion using orthodontic and implant treatment. The patient had no symptoms or discomfort of temporomandibular joint disorder such as pain or sound. The orthodontic treatment was continued until implant provisional prosthesis delivery. And the vertical height of occlusion was elevated 2mm on anterior basis for anterior teeth protection and esthetics. After the orthodontic treatment, the implant abutments and natural teeth were finally restored with porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns and bridges. Satisfactory function and esthetic outcomes are observed after 6months of follow up.

ABSTRACT

@#Anticoagulant drugs are widely used in the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic diseases. In recent years, coagulation factor Xa inhibitors have become a hot spot for the development of new anticoagulant drugs. However, the anticoagulant drugs currently used still have side-effects such as increased bleeding risk. ABSTRACT

@#More than 20 years have passed since the advent of individualized appliances, which are designed according to the corrective target position. Through a series of digital technology-aided design and production processes, individual appliances have been increasingly recognized and accepted by the public. At present, there are three types of individualized orthodontic appliances: individualized lingual orthodontic appliances, non-bracket invisible appliances and individualized labial appliances. Because of their good effects in orthodontics, these appliances have gradually become mainstream orthodontic treatment tools. However, many doubts persist regarding their use in clinical treatment. This article reviews the development history, design principles and characteristics of the three types of individualized appliances. The results of a literature review showed that CAD/CAM and CBCT provide a hardware foundation for personalized orthodontic appliances that simplifies the therapeutic process. Additionally, individualized appliances also place higher demands on orthodontists. This article could provide references for and help with the clinical selection and use of individualized appliances.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the polarization and arrangement of epithelial cells in the embryonic development of drosophila. Methods A finite element model was established to simulate the development of drosophila egg, and an ABAQUS UMAT user subroutine that describes the growth of materials was developed. The developmental process of the stages 8 (S8) to the initial state of the stage 10 (S10) was simulated, and the direction of principal stress and the distribution of the in-plane maximum shear stress (MSS) in the epithelial cell layer was analyzed, in order to predict the polarization and arrangement of the epithelial cells. Results The orientation of the epithelial cells was consistent with the direction of the maximum principal stress, and the aspect ratio of cells was proportional to the magnitude of the MSS. Conclusions The polarization and arrangement of the epithelial cells are controlled by the stress state in the tissues.

ABSTRACT

The determination of the spatial distribution of a pest is the first step in the establishment of a sampling plan, as sampling methods are contingent upon the type of spatial distribution of the specific pest studied, varying according to the number and size of samples in the area. This work aimed to study the spatial distribution of soybean plants infested with Bemisia tabaci, under field conditions, through the determination of the aggregation indices and the chi-square test of fitness to the main types of theoretical frequency distributions. The average percentage of whitefly (B. tabaci) infestation increasing after the V1 stage, reaching the maximum infestation of 60.3% in the R1 stage. At the R2 stage, the percentage of infestation ranged from 20 to 40%. According to the models of theoretical distributions studied, the Poisson distribution best defines the distribution of the whitefly.(AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: In the last few cropping seasons, some soybean producers have tested the application of a hill drop sowing method, usually from three to four seeds every 30 to 40cm. However, there is a lack of information in the literature about the effect of this practice on soybean performance. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a hill drop sowing with different number of plants per hole on soybean performance. The study was conducted in Londrina - PR, Brazil, during the 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2016/17 cropping seasons. The experiment was a randomized complete block design with four replications and a 2x5 factorial scheme. The first factor consisted of two soybean cultivars, BRS 359RR and NK 7059RR analyzed in the first two cropping seasons and BRS 359RR and BRS 1010IPRO in the last cropping season. The second factor was constituted by five in-hill hole-spacing treatments (HS) (8, 16, 24, 32 and 40cm), with rows spaced 50cm apart. To maintain the same plant density in all treatments (270,000 plants ha-1), sowing was performed manually, being then thinned out. After thinning, the distribution was one plant per hole at HS8, 2 plants at HS16, 3 plants at HS24, 4 plants at HS32, and 5 plants at HS40. The agronomic performance of soybean in hill drop sowing with different number of plants per hole is similar to that of an equidistant distribution of plants.
